Psy Nyde - Where Is Everybody

Total Rating: 8.3/10

Original Review (2/10/2021):

This is quite a long album coming in a little over 40 minutes, but is actually quite an enjoyable listening experience and pretty easy to digest. The genre is a little hard to pin down because Psy Nyde and his collaborators have fused edm, hip-hop, and rock into one on this project.

The progression is really good and each song flows into the next. It kicks off with a couple EDM tracks ("90" being notable since it is featured twice on this album) and transforms into this old school 80s synth hip hop type of vibe in "I'm Up Now" and "Not the Answer" and caps it off with a punchy rock song.

I assume the lyrics are provided and performed by Psy Nyde's features Desi1080p and Jimmy Swiss. Desi has a strong feature in "I'm Up Now". Jimmy on the other hand kinda fails at the old school hip hop approach in "Not the Answer" and just kinda sounds repetitive. However, he does redeem himself in "I Got Lost". The lyrics for all of these tracks seem to focused around the struggle and stress many people went through in 2020.

Again, the vocals from the features are pretty solid with the exception of "Not the Answer".
If I'm dissecting this correctly, then Psy Nyde is the producer of the all of these tracks. With that in mind, I think he did an excellent job. There were a lot of instrumentals that just make you wanna move, but not fast.

In summary, this is a pretty chill EDM album that C418 would probably throw on if he was at a house party.

Revised Review (5/2/2023):

Yeah yeah… I know I didn't update this immediately after recording like I said I would in my video, but you knew I was still gonna do it. Anyway, my opinion hardly changed at all. This is Psy Nyde's first attempt at a full length EDM project, and I think it succeeds in what it sets out to do for the most part. It's very safely played and a non-offensive listen overall. The first two tracks are a bit lengthy and drag a little bit due to their durations, but I don't believe this is damning nor is it hindering on the tracks' practicality. I could easily see "Make It Happen" or "90" being played in a club or maybe even on a video game OST. "90" also has an extra chance to win you over with the "Impatient Mix" at the end of the album, and the 3 minutes worth of material removed may improve the track for you. It definitely did for me. This album was reuploaded sometime between my original review and this one, and it's unfortunate that we didn't get to give "Not The Answer" another shot, but it was one of my originally my only disliked track. So, now that's been removed, this album doesn't have any tracks on it that I personally dislike. I'm kind of shocked that my opinion is so similar to a take I had two years ago, but that might just be the case for some of the stronger albums like this one that I've reviewed. There's not much to improve upon if you're already so close to perfection.
